On Being Thankful

We're coming up to the beginning of what is known as The Holidays. I guess Thanksgiving is the first of them, but it seems that the stores have skipped it and moved directly to Christmas. I was the host for P.E.O. Tuesday night and discovered I was out of napkins as I was gathering things together. I ran to the only grocery store we have in our small town thinking I would purchase some cute Harvest/Thanksgiving paper napkins. Imagine my surprise and disappointment when there was not one single Thanksgiving anything anywhere. So... I bought plain white napkins. Then I looked at my artwork realizing I haven't done anything at all in the way of Thanksgiving or harvest. I have lots of photos of the harvest of my garden. I'd better get some of that committed to paint, don't you think?

Picture Perfect

As I mentioned before, part of the joy of gardening for me is the beauty which inspired amazing photographs- inspiration for further works of art. Here is a profoundly rich photo - one of my favorites.

The Garden

Having spent many years with clay soil and then with no soil (renting), finally having a garden has put me a little "over the top". Year one I'm afraid it was all I could talk about. You should have seen my reaction (or maybe not!) when the deer discovered my garden. Year two I did my best to refocus my attention, but I was always drawn back to what was growing and how exciting it was. Next summer, I hope to be a little more under control. There is always more to do, to discover, to enjoy, but I'm a little more normal - a relative term.

One of the things that has come out of the great beauty of the growing things, besides the harvest, is photographs of every little change that happened. Such glorious wealth of color, texture, scents, possibilities.
